What's So Bad About PCBs?

Why are grassroots communities so outraged about PCBs? Because:

• PCBs are associated with serious health effects, including cancer and behavioral and reproductive problems
• PCBs persist in the environment for decades
• PCBs build up in body fat of people and animals
• PCBs are passed on in the food chain and through the generations
• PCBs have escaped into the environment, including the oceans and the Arctic
• PCBs that could have been or could be contained and safely destroyed are still endangering us -- because those responsible resist paying the price of safety
• PCBs, like other toxins, pose special risks to working-class communities, communities of color, and immigrant communities
• PCB producers and users have deceived communities for many years
